Our Story
This event began in 2023 at the College Church in Lancaster, MA, through a collaboration with Kingdom Voice & Music (KVM). What started as a modest dream—a small concert featuring a choir that Kirosha, the founder of KVM, had formed in 2021—quickly grew into something much larger. Inspired by a desire to celebrate Black heritage and excellence, the vision expanded to include local cuisine, fine art, and unforgettable music from renowned artists like Renese King. That first event, titled Courage to Sing, was a powerful tribute to Black voices and stories.
2023
2024
In February 2024, the celebration evolved with Courage to Persevere, shifting the focus from historical heroes to modern-day heroines—Black female educators who are breaking barriers and making history today. This annual event continues to inspire, uplift, and honor the richness of the Black community.
2025
This year’s theme, "Courage to Dream," told the courageous faith stories of Black and Brown immigrants who have journeyed to Worcester County in search of a better life. Through performances by local artists, actors, choirs, and culinary creatives, we celebrated their resilience and contributions, highlighting the powerful narratives that have shaped our community.
2026
2026 "Courage to Remember" We highlighted powerful stories of Black history that deserve to be remembered and passed down—stories of African royalty, historical heros, living legends within our communities, and the generational wisdom that continues to shape our future. We also partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to shed light on Alzheimer’s and dementia within the African American community, providing both awareness and resources for families affected.
2027
As we prepare for Black History Month 2027: Courage to Become, KVM will celebrate the courage it takes to grow, heal, and become who we are meant to be.
Through “Heritage, Healing, and Hope,” we will honor Black history and culture while creating space for conversations around mental and emotional well-being, resilience, identity, and hope for the future.

The performance hall features a unique, sophisticated sound system that mimics the acoustics of different venues – such as a cathedral or concert hall – and is the only one of its kind found in an academic institution on the East Coast.
